Retail sales strong again in April

If a surprisingly strong retail sales number was released but cable TV news shows ignored it, would the economy still be in a V-shaped recovery?  The answer is yes.

Retail sales rose 0.4% in April, while positive revisions added 0.5% to prior months.  March sales were revised from 1.6% to 2.1% while February sales were revised from 0.5% to 0.6%.  Putting it all together leaves retail sales up 8.8% in the past year.  The V-shaped recovery remains intact.
