View from the Observation Deck

  1. The S&P 500 closed the trading session on 6/8/15 at 2079.28. It stood 2.42% below its all-time high of 2130.82 (5/21/15), according to Bloomberg.
  2. Since 2/6/15, there has been some deterioration in 2015 revenue projections throughout all major sectors, except Health Care. Both Industrials and Materials have recently turned negative.
  3. The energy sector's mounting negative revenue growth projection for 2015 is clearly providing a drag on the 2015 estimate for the S&P 500 (see chart).
  4. As indicated in the chart, the estimated revenue growth rate for the S&P 500 for 2015 was 0.3%, as of 6/5/15. When you exclude Energy, however, the rate jumps to 4.0%, according to Bloomberg.
  5. The energy sector's 13.4% revenue growth rate estimate for 2016 provides a nice boost to the S&P 500's 2016 revenue growth rate projection of 6.0%.
  6. As of 6/5/15, the only sector with higher revenue growth rate estimates than the S&P 500 for both 2015 and 2016 was Health Care.
