Investment Objective/Strategy - The First Trust SMID Growth Strength ETF (the "Fund") seeks investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield (before the Fund's fees and expenses) of an equity index called The SMID Growth Strength Index (the "Index"). The Fund will normally invest at least 80% of its net assets (plus any borrowings for investment purposes) in the securities that comprise the Index.
There can be no assurance that the Fund's investment objectives will be achieved.
- The initial selection universe is composed of all the securities comprising the Nasdaq US Small Cap Index or the Nasdaq US Mid Cap Index, which includes common stocks and real estate investment trusts (“REITs”).
- The index then excludes all securities that do not meet the size, float and liquidity requirements of the index.
- To be included in the index, a security’s issuer must have:
- at least $100 million in cash and short-term investments;
- a long-term debt-to-market capitalization ratio of less than 30%;
- positive shareholder equity;
- positive revenue and cashflow;
- a return on equity of greater than 10%.
- Eligible securities are then ranked by their three-year revenue growth and three-year cash flow growth.
- Those rankings are then combined equally and the top 100 securities are selected.
- Securities are equally weighted.
- The index is rebalanced and reconstituted on a quarterly basis.
